Boardies IT Solutions was founded in February 2010. Boardies IT Solutions started from a hobby project that I was working on. It started when I first got an Android powered mobile phone, and wanted a password management app. I looked around on the play store, and at that time the options available were somewhat limited, and the functionality of the apps were, what I felt, quite clunky. They weren't easy to use, it involved a lot of switching to and from the password app to the website or app I was trying to log in to. Some of them also had a lot more functionality than I was ever going to use, such as storing credit card and bank information, which I didn't need nor want, I just wanted a simple, light weight, easy to use password management app.
In my spare time I started to learn about Android development and started working on my own password management app, and from that, came Boardies Password Manager. This was a simple and light weight application, which utilised Android notification system to allow quick copy and paste of the username and password. Something that I believe is still unique for all the password management apps that are now available.
We released the app to the play store and had a pretty good outcome. We didn't advertise the app anywhere, and to this day we haven't, it just relies on people coming across it and word of mouth. We have several people directly contact us to let us know how much they like the concept of the notification and the app is used across the UK, US, South Africa, Australia and Brazil amongst others and has an average rating of 4.6 out of 5.
After this we started working on some other projects for Windows, although these projects are no longer available, but we are working on others. There are some early previews available in our downloads section.
After the success with the Android Password Management app. We thought, lets give it another go. We wanted to be able to check our databases while on the move, or at least, where we haven't got, or don't want to have to turn on a computer. We had a look on the play store for MySQL Management apps and we found that although there were some available, they were limited, used the old Android APIs and hadn't been updated for a long while, having a fair amount of negative reviews, at which point we then developed and released Boardies MySQL Manager.
So, how did we come up with the name Boardies IT Solutions? Well, quite simple, my name is Chris Board and my nickname is Boardy. I work in IT and we provide solutions, or at least, we hope you agree that we do, plus, the acronym for Boardies IT Solutions is BITS, bits obviously being a size unit in computing.
